Happy Ghoul Year (belated)

When S-phie chose her Goth vampiress costume and started wearing it all over the house in early September, it warmed my heart. The girl is prissy and loves Barbie and Disney princesses and Polly Pockets and all of that pink plastic shit. But, alas, she has a dark side: she loves bats (the idea of them and learning everything about them from books but is scared if we see real ones - prissy still) and vampires and mummys and the Ghost of Cleopatra (whatever/whoever that is). So, when she insisted that the whole family dress up as vampires, I was all over it. And although preparing for it exhausted me, it was some serious family fun.

p.s. There were 867 trick-or-treaters on our street.

Indeed, it is the family of vonDrockula, complete with the original Count. But let me ask:

do you dare, to lie, with the man in the cape? The kids go crazy, they're drunk as fuck, but I know when I'm hearing fascist rock . . .

I wish the Surf Maggots CD was on the www so that I could post a link to this fine rock and roll tune and not make this an inside joke and so that everyone could share the joy. I should add that said Count, who should be doing dishes, is now playing his guitar in the other room and when I peeked in and asked if Drockula was the fascist rocker or the hearer of the fascist rock, he said, "The fascist rocker; everyone falls in step behind the Count." And then said, "isn't this the best guitar sound for Drockula??" (followed by annoying litte noodly fuzzed out guitar thing)

Epiphany: just like I love Henry because of, and not in spite of, him being LF, I love Josh because, and not in spite of, his being a surf maggot

I am so impressed with your sewing prowess that it makes me want to have 2 more kids just so we can get the hand-me-downs.

(or handidowns, as anna would say).
